Vigan is the capital of the Philippine province of Ilocos Sur and a World Heritage site. Most of the city is well preserved as one of the last Hispanic cities in the Philippines. Much of the city, of course, has been modernized but its colonial heritage is largely preserved. You can choose to take the plane but for the best Vigan experience you should go there by bus.
Here are some of the must-see sites in Vigan:
The Vigan Cathedral is the main church of the city
The Museo di San Pablo is the national museum
of Vigan and houses a collection of mementos of early
Philippine life
Baluarte is Gov. Chavit Singson's Xanadu. It is a mini-zoo
that houses such animals as ostriches, camels, peacocks and alpacas
to name a few
Bantay Church and Belfry is another of the many
churches in Vigan and from the tower you could see the city
at large
Don't let the unimposing picture fool you. Syquia Mansion
is one of the must-see places in Vigan; it preserves the
Chinese-Spanish aristocratic way of life apart from also
being the residence of President Elpidio Quirino
Finally, the must-see site (and the closest) site is the
Calle Crisologo, a preserved Hispanic cobbled street wonder
amidst modernized streets in Vigan.
